- 1Siddhis as Incidental Friction: Supernormal faculties (Vibhuti / Siddhi) are thermodynamic by-products of Pranic containment, never the authentic destination of sadhana.
- 2Shastric Entity Stratification: The subtle cosmos is rigidly ordered—from celestial Yakshas and Gandharvas down to dense Vetals and Pishachas—governed by immovable laws of Prarabdha.
- 3The Trap of Astral Barter: Seeking pacts with subtle beings or practicing for occult prestige weaponizes the Ahamkara (ego), guaranteeing spiritual stagnation and energetic ruin.
- 4Lineage Protocol of Total Neutrality: When astral phenomena manifest during Upasana, the initiated command is unwavering: maintain detached Vairagya, reject interaction, and lay the experience solely before your Guru.
Two subjects consistently attract the most deluded seekers into the esoteric field: supernatural powers (Siddhis) and unseen entities. Both exist. Both are extensively documented in our shastras and verified in the direct sadhana of the Nath Parampara. But between the commercial charlatan who promises supernatural mastery for a fee and the initiated Siddha who understands cosmic law lies an unbridgeable chasm. The lineage reveals the map of the unseen not to invite tourists or occult bargain-hunters, but to immunize the serious sadhak against fatal spiritual entrapment.
What Siddhis are said to be
In classical Yogic and Agamic texts—from Patanjali’s Vibhuti Pada to the foundational treatises of Gorakshanath—Siddhis represent latent capacities awakened as the practitioner systematically burns through karmic obscurations. The tradition categorizes the primary accomplishments into the Ashta Siddhis: Anima (the capacity to reduce consciousness to atomic infinitesimal subtlety), Mahima (expansion into vast, cosmic immensity), Garima and Laghima (mastery over gravitational density and weightlessness), Prapti, Prakamya, Ishitva, and Vashitva. Beyond these lie the formidable trans-physical Siddhis, such as Parakaya Pravesh—the voluntary transference of conscious Prana into another physical vessel, as recorded in the lore of Adi Shankara and Matsyendranath.
Examine the traditional framing with absolute precision. In authentic Nath metaphysics, these phenomena are classified as incidental friction generated by intense Tapasya and the uncoiling of Kundalini Shakti through the Sushumna Nadi. As the energetic granthis (Brahma, Vishnu, and Rudra knots) are severed, the standard constraints of the gross elements (Bhutas) naturally loosen. They appear along the spiritual path in the same manner that immense physical strength develops in an ascetic who hauls stone up a mountain every dawn. A man does not endure ten years of brutal mountain discipline merely to break walnut shells with his bare knuckles; to treat the byproduct as the goal is the definition of spiritual illiteracy.
Why chasing them stalls you
The instant a seeker initiates mantra-japa, nyasa, or kriya with the covert longing to command spirits, foresee markets, or project psychic dominance over others, the entire alchemy of sadhana turns poisonous. Upasana was engineered by the Rishis and Siddhas to dissolve the Ahamkara (the rigid illusion of individual ego) into universal Shiva-consciousness. The moment you practice to acquire personal power, you feed the very beast the practice was designed to slay.
This is why, within an authentic Akhada or Peeth, an experienced Guru falls stone-cold silent when an aspirant inquires eagerly about acquiring Siddhis. The inquiry is inherently diagnostic. It reveals instantly that the seeker’s interiority remains mired in Rajasic ambition and Tamasic insecurity. Regardless of how flawlessly the student chants the Chandipath or memorizes Sanskrit verses, their engine is worldly hunger.
Consider an even sterner shastric reality: the occultist who displays supernormal feats before an audience, on digital media, or for commercial patronage is not an adept; he is a merchant. The display of a Siddhi instantly drains the accumulated Tapasya of years. In the eyes of our lineage, performing miracles for worldly applause is the clearest signature of spiritual bankruptcy.
The classes of beings
Tantra dismisses both the naive skepticism of modern materialists and the theatrical gullibility of New Age fantasists. The subtle dimensions (Sukshma Lokas) are densely populated, stratified by vibrational density and karmic purity.
Above the human energetic bandwidth dwell the semi-divine orders: the Yakshas (custodians of terrestrial treasures and subterranean vitality), the Gandharvas (celestial masters of sound, frequency, and aesthetic Prana), and the Kinnaras. Transcending these into the fierce currents of primordial Shakti are the myriad classifications of Yoginis and Matrikas—autonomous, fierce currents of Mahamaya’s kinetic consciousness.
Conversely, occupying the subterranean and low-astral thresholds flanking human consciousness dwell the residual intelligences: Vetals, Pishachas, Bhut-Pretas, and Dharmik Chhalas. These beings are composed predominantly of unfulfilled Vasanas (burning earthly desires), raw elemental hunger, and dense Tamas. They lack physical instruments to resolve their karmic hunger, rendering them parasitic: they feed upon human fear, sexual frenzy, anger, and chaotic Prana.
Why the map is taught at all
The hierarchy of beings is taught to erect impregnable borders, not to initiate communication.
When a dedicated sadhak enters the deep phases of solitary Upasana—be it nocturnal japa, smashan sadhana, or rigorous purashcharana—the boundary between the gross physical body and the astral sensory matrix inevitably thins. Auditory anomalies, sudden scents, or luminous forms may appear in the sanctum. An unguided practitioner, intoxicated by early experiences, instantly assumes that an appearance must be the Divine Mother, a guardian angel, or an enlightened master chosen to instruct them. This is how promising seekers descend into severe psychic obsession, mediumship, and mental collapse.
When grounded in the Shastric cartography of the Nath lineage, your reaction is swift, cold, and disciplined: identify the stratum, recognize its transient, illusory nature, maintain absolute emotional neutrality, and intensify the Guru-mantra. You do not bow, you do not converse, and you do not invite. The map exists so you never mistake an astral scavenger for a deity.
The practical rule
The unbending protocol of our tradition can be stated in three clear edicts:
- Never seek communion: Never invoke, petition, or bargain with any intermediate or low-astral entity. Entering into astral barter (contractual worship of lower spirits for quick worldly favors) is spiritual suicide—it encumbers your subtle body with horrific karmic debt that endures across multiple incarnations.
- Never accept astral instruction: If a voice, vision, or entity offers you proprietary secrets, claims you are a chosen avatar, or gives you spontaneous directions during deep meditation, discard it ruthlessly. Authentic lineage transmission comes exclusively through the living human Guru via Samskara and Shaktipat, never through disembodied astral whispering.
- Report only to your Diksha Guru: If subtle phenomena persist, disclose them entirely to the teacher who granted your Diksha. If you have undertaken unverified tantric rituals without Diksha, stop immediately. The lack of an unbroken protective lineage umbrella is why amateurs become spiritually possessed or mentally deranged.
The supreme test of genuine sadhana is not whether you can bend spoons, see auras, or summon spirits. The only metric that counts in the court of Mahadev is whether your inner Vairagya has deepened, your conduct has become stainless, your mind remains immovable in adversity, and your compassion embraces all living beings without fear.
